Chroma LOVED comics, so when she found himself able to shoot beams of light from her core and found an unnatural surge of strength joining her when he attempted to lift objects, it was like a dream come true. There one or two other general abilities she was capable of mastering such as being able to jump extraordinarily high and zip around almost like he was made of electricity (easy for dodging!) but there was one power missing that Chroma might possibly trade all of those powers for (well.. half. she was quite enjoying the zipping around and leaping ones.)
Chroma couldn't speak with bugs. That was quite possibly the only thing Chroma would've asked for, zoolingualism. That was what they called it, right? Thinking off the top of her head, that seemed right.
Chroma leapt up into the air, aiming for the roof of the six story building in front of him. Still no expert with these powers or the proper ability to calculate how high she'd actually have to jump to safely clear the ledge, that was where she found herself; clinging to the ledge.
Scrambling in a panic to get up, Chroma frantically kicked her legs for some kind of leverage before he pulled himself up. She paused for a second once he was safe and definitely clear of the ledge and thought about how she struggled to pull himself up. He checked earlier, he should still have her super strength.. did it not work on her, herself? He.. had no idea. She did a quick sweep of the roof for anything that could be tested on without it being noticed.
Conveniency and irony were the two words that came to Chroma's mind when she locked eyes on the comically large branch on the far side of the roof. Did the recent storm knock it up here? Those must've been some pretty strong winds for this to happen.. The portion of the half wall under it was actively crumbling. Someone should move that.
Right. She could move that. She was that someone. Angling himself at the least awkward position to not be poked by stray branches, Chroma mustered the same unnatural strength as before and lifted with ease. "Still strong..." Chroma muttered aloud as he set the massive branch down in the middle of the roof. Actually, it looked more like a tree than a branch when he looked at it.
Shrugging, Chroma moved onto the next roof. The next one was only a story or two higher for a total of seven or eight, give or take. Crouching down for a boost, an idea came to Chroma. She could safely test how his powers were working if she did the same thing he did earlier. Taking a smaller leap, Chroma launched herself up and grabbed onto the ledge. With ease, Chroma pulled himself up. That was rather easy.. did he need to be calm to use those powers? That would make sense actually. It could also be some sort of 'hero's drawback'.
Chroma leapt up and across the next few rooves absentmindedly as she took in the view of the city around her. It had always been loud on the surface but up in the air things were actually quite peaceful. From building to building, she lingered in the air, taking in the forming sights before landing on the next one and repeating the process in a mindless pattern.
As he went, Chroma began to notice something strange. The color of the world was beginning to fade. The once vibrant colors of the shops below were dull husks of their former selves after their owners worked tirelessly to have an enticing storefront to attract business. Had the city always been this muted? Surely not. she was at that pet shop just the other day picking up supplies for Bowie, his spark noodle.
Chroma leapt from the looming building and landed on the sidewalk. (well, in a bush but that wasn't important.) Pulling the stray leaves out of their cytoplasm, Chroma begun to wander around, trying to find the source of the problem. She stopped at the crossroad, watching as an older jammyx struggled to lift and mount the updated sign to her family business. Some nails were visible on the front, with scrap pieces of odd wood bulked the back up. The colors were dull and washed away in some spots. It must've been damaged in the storm he thought, approaching to effortlessly pick the sign up from the struggling woman's hands.
"Where do you want it posted?" Chroma asked, the baffled jammyx who pointed up at the slot above the door. With an expertly calculated leap, Chroma jumped and slotted in the missing sign. Stepping back and rejoining the now overjoyed jammyx, the two took a second to appreciate the vibrant colors of the renewed sign. That's odd.. Wasn't the sign washed out? Chroma looked to his left to check if the old lady saw what she was seeing but noticed the same thing. The dull purple tones of her cytoplasm were a vibrant form of violet now. The building itself stood out among the near colorless neighbours it had. After accepting a VERY firm handshake for a woman that age, Chroma wandered off.
Helping a stray gnarp from a greying tree led to emerald leaves and an amber hued stemmelle who couldn't reach her pet.
Splitting falling trees with a super handy star beam cheered the construction crew tasked with clearing this mess right up.
That delivery can be done in two minutes flat with how quick she could zip around, just give him the address!
With each person helped, the city began to reclaim its lost color. Wonderous hues returned to their lost homes and people seemed to be perking up. After several hours of helping anyone who seemed to need a pop of color in their lives, Chroma leaped back up and among the buildings, taking in the vibrant sights.
Who knew the world had so much color?
